| It isn't in his nature to seek out help, much less from this guy. Minjae has his hesitations. Fernchester is but a small town, and any reputation, good or bad, sticks with a person for life. He gets enough rumours from an absent father and a wheelchair bound mother, and the last thing on his mind is to have a troublemaker associated with him.
He admits that he is, however, stretched far too thin. Mother's trips to the hospital are getting more frequent ( hope, faint and glimmering, of a better tomorrow for her ) and he has to finish school fast, get out of here so he can give her the life she deserves. Between everything, he doesn't have the time to do this by himself.
He's occasionally mentioned it to Hunter before, and Hunter's been offhandedly mentioning his buddy's roommate. The name is unfamiliar, but it doesn't take much to dig up rumours in Fernchester. Logically, Minjae knows this is an accident waiting to happen. But no one responds to a tiny little paper advert out front, and desperation grows with every passing day.
He musters the courage to seek him out one day. His face is placid, completely calm, as he sifts through the hallway, making sure not to cross anyone the wrong way. His target is an easy one to spot - few people dress so lavishly or have hair such a fiery orange.
Not too late to turn back, he thinks, but takes a bold step forward, "U-Uh, hey... you're Gunner, right?" |

[attr="class","melreply"] im just a poor boy i need no sympathy because im easy come easy go little high little low any way the wind blows doesnt really matter to me to me.
Just one more class, and then only four to eventually closing hours (if someone ditched like they always did) of work. Tomorrow was therapy, and as excited as he was to not have to work, he would much rather skip that meeting than work. Maybe it was just because one actually made him cash, but more likely it was because he always had his worst days on therapy days.
He didn't have to worry about that just yet, but running over the list in his head every hour was just one of the private ways that he walked the thin line from going off the edge and staying all in a row. Usually, no one bothered him in the hall, and aside from the unfortunate kid to bump shoulders with him on a bad day, it was relatively uneventful walk through the sea of people who were almost entirely younger than him.
So when a voice squeaked up and he caught his own name, he almost ignored it. Sometimes people talk about him, other times he just mishears stuff. Usually its only bound to make his mood worse, but he caught the eyes of the blond trying to grab his attention and-- with a frown-- he decided to spare a moment of his time for the kid.
"Yeah, that's me," he replied in his usual, scratchy and growly voice. Awkwardly, he rolled his shoulder and cleared his throat, trying to act casual even though he was taken off guard by the interruption of his day. "What's up?" He tried to keep the edge off of his tone, reminding himself for the billionth time that not everyone wanted to start something with him.

| Up close, Minjae realises that Gunner isn't as intimidating - the height, probably? But he knows better than to voice this. He's not that much taller, and his build is similar to his mother's. The last thing he wants is to be on the receiving end of a fist. Gunner's reputation precedes him. Minjae thinks that he might just be able to shrug off paralysis with sheer willpower if he wanted to.
"Uh... hey," he repeats again. Why does it feel like he's treading on thin ice just from talking with the guy? He tries to string together a coherent line of words without looking like an absolute fool. His hand goes to the back of his neck, rubbing it out of nervous habit. "Well, Hunter - my roommate, he mentioned you. He's friends with your roommate or something." He isn't aware of the details. He rarely pries much from Hunter, hoping that the other guy would do the same. Most of the time, it doesn't work.
"He said you were looking for a job. So uh... I might have one, if you're interested or anything." He shrugs. Sure, he'll be bummed if it doesn't go well. But there's bound to be someone interested in earning some money on the side out there. Finding someone is really only a matter of time. GUNNER . ghhhh i'm sorry for slowness and short posts |

[attr="class","melreply"] im just a poor boy i need no sympathy because im easy come easy go little high little low any way the wind blows doesnt really matter to me to me.
The kid-- when Gunner started calling his fellow third years kids he couldn't remember-- was taller than him, but that was just one of the many things he was used to. Everyone was taller than him. Apparently his resting grump and glare was enough to unsettle the blond, but he could only do so much to not look like he was considering punching the first thing to make him see red that day. Gunner was always at a six or seven, so there was always the chance that he would just skyrocket off of the handle for barely anything.
Minjae, to the fire type's relief, appeared to have only best intentions. While Gunner wasn't out of a job, his days were significantly numbered. They always were, really. The fact that coworkers on his shift would call off rather than risk having the pleasure of his company said enough. It was completely out of left field for someone to basically offer him a chance of a job, and for a moment his head tilted to one side.
"You ain't fucking with me, are you?" He asked, sounding more bewildered than defensive for once. He vaguely knew Hunter through Oliver, and the fact that word had gotten through them didn't seem that impossible. "... Alright, well, yeah I am. I guess," he admitted after a moment, shrugging like it didn't matter. He was dying of curiosity, but a smidgen too proud to admit that he could use literally all the help he could get. "My gig at the mall isn't exactly my speed. They're probably going to fire me by the end of the month anyway. What's the job?" He hadn't punched anyone yet. Just made a sizable hole in the backroom. His pay was getting docked for that. As reasonable as that was, it was still irritating.
He was expecting a catch, but he was willing to give the guy a chance. Hell, anyone who gave him a break was worth listening to. Unless Minjae was pulling his leg, but the blond would be asking for trouble and he just didn't seem the type.
